Patterns

Berlin, Germany - Ballhaus Naunynstraße
2019

The lighting design of Patterns was a result of many layers of research and experiments that lead to an incredibly simple setting that research was represented in a subtle intensity.

The research started and was developed referencing new photography directors in films and TV series that are shaping a new way of illuminating dark skin tones: with colors, and color contrasts. With a new color pigment to be lit, the colors on light also proposed a question.

The challenge was to explore the critical aspects of representation in light, that can challenge perceptions or reinforce them.

The space was also treated with the same approach, as white wall in the background - with classical european fixtures and textures - also expressed a cultural meaning in itself, being also treated with color and interplay between light and architectural style.
